This is a children’s book I did two (?) quarters ago for a class on… Children’s Storybooks. I actually uh… got a bad grade in this class lol. But I forgot to do some some pre-work and my actual physical book kinda sucked because I couldn’t put it together right for the life of me. ;_; So yeah, wasn’t so surprised. I had fun writing and drawing it, though. But I don’t know if I’d enjoy doing more children’s books.

Anyway, here! is a PDF of the book. I don’t know why the cover isn’t in there, but it’s up there at the top of this post so whatever. Also, the actual printed book had the text on the opposite pages, not on the images. That’s just how the format was supposed to be, but I actually like the text better on the images.

Here are the rest of the covers I did for my Cover Illustration class.

The first three are for a made-up series called Max Starwind (creation of my teacher). We had to do a kids cover, an adult cover, and a psychological one. I gotta say the kids cover is my favorite, and probably the one I had the most fun with.

Next up is the horror cover. I probably could have done a little more in terms of detail on this one.

We had to re-do an existing cover for this one. I chose this cover of the Toaru Majutsu no Index manga. Because I thought it sucked. I included the textless version up there, too, since it’s essentially fanart…

Last one, social commentary cover. We had a list of books to choose from and I chose these two. I actually hated Fahrenheit 451, but I wanted to draw fire. And I’ve never read Lord of the Flies at all, I just wanted to draw more fire. If you’re curious about the layout, it was supposed to be like… those two-books-in-one kinda thing where they each start at one end. And I just grabbed all that text from imbd and wiki.

School’s over! Like, for good. This was my last quarter, so I was busy with my senior project. I also took a cover illustration class, that’s what the above is from. I’ll post the other covers I did after this, this post is for my senior project work, I just included the above cover because it’s from the same story idea. The title might not stick, I just needed to put something there.

For senior project, what I did weren’t comic pages, but concept art. I didn’t do as much as I would have liked, but I probably could have if I hadn’t taken cover illustration–but I really wanted to! I really love making covers. Anyway, onto the concept art: I did character concepts and concept scenes. The former are all polished and colored, the latter are sketches.

There are a lot of things I can/need to improve on, but I’m satisfied with the outcome. I’ve learned a lot at SCAD, it’s helped me improve drastically in a lot of areas. All I can do now is keep drawing.

Cover isn’t resized because I forgot and I’m not opening photoshop SUE ME.

Overall I’m pretty satisfied, though near the end this did cause some frustration, and just kind of re-established the fact I don’t like doing comics continuously. I had ten times more fun making the cover (along with a second cover we did).

We had to create trading cards. Now… we didn’t actually have to make them look like cards, we just had to make the illustrations. This flew over my head somehow so I ended up doing shitty card templates and descriptions whoops. Well, I probably got a higher grade thanks to that extra effort. Anyway, I chose to use aspects from Nicaragua for my cards. No I’m not translating the Spanish.

Truthfully the only one I like is the artifact card (the mask). The others… I don’t really like them. Oh well.

This was for our horror project. We had to do something inspired by Lovecraft or Romero. Why those two I don’t know. I chose to do something with Lovecraft’s Nyarlathotep. I took these aspects from the text for the drawing:

” And it was then that Nyarlathotep came out of Egypt. Who he was, none could tell, but he was of the old native blood and looked like a Pharaoh.”
“He spoke much of the sciences—of electricity and psychology—”

I used the Egyptian god Set as reference, and put the symbol of psychology behind him, though it kind of got lost… the rest is pretty literal. I actually kind of like this, it’s different from what I usually do. The red tint at the bottom was a last minute thing I added after the first critique, so it’s not very smooth, but I still like the atmosphere it added.

Our final project–creating a cover and inside illustration for a book. Among the list our teacher gave us, I chose Artemis Fowl. It was the only book I had read on the list LOL. Well, I do really like how the inside illustration came out, not that wild about the cover, but it’s all right. There are some small things that could be fixed here and there, but overall I was satisfied with how these came out.

And now moving away from Fantasy Illustration–this was for my Environments, Props and Structures class. It’s the only page in the entire class I really liked, and it’s mostly only because of the bottom two panels. The top could be better. I hate drawing backgrounds. Don’t get me wrong, I do like backgrounds and I love the end result–but I’m such an impatient artist. I can’t sit there for hours on end drawing the same thing, and I hate leaving something alone one day and coming back to it the next. sob.

Annnd finally, something not for an art class at all! This was for my Astronomy class. Our final included doing something related to our major. As character design and concept is a key part of sequential art, I simply did character designs for the planets. Here’s a version without text.

Edit: I should note, that a requirement for this project was overlapping panels. I don’t really like doing it much… but yeah, that’s why there’s so many of them.

Fantasy Illustration project dos. Battle scene–my prop was “chair.”

I somehow unconsciously made the two being chased look like Kihara and Vin. Obviously this is an alternate universe where Vin never lost his eye and they live in a sci-fi world that runs on chairs.

The only thing I don’t like about this is the fire coming out of the soldiers’ chairs, but it was like 6AM when I did it and at that point I didn’t care anymore.

First project in my Fantasy Illustration class. The concept was literally “gas station of the future,” but we were allowed to just go crazy. Thus the super villain gas station was born.

Next project is a battle scene. We were given the weapon of choice for it. I got… chair. This will be interesting.

Been a while since I posted some original art. I actually haven’t drawn much over the summer, as I’ve been having neck problems and it makes my arm hurt. ;_; Also, my computer fan stopped spinning, so using photoshop is a mission sometimes sob. Anyway yeah some more art:

I think I’ll throw this last one in for kicks. It’s from my Visual Storytelling I class, the project was to create a journey of any kind in two pages. These aren’t actual pages though, they’re roughs–they come before doing the full-sized finished pages. I actually despise doing roughs lol. Thumbnails, sure. But roughs? Fuck that shit. I should note the project was ONLY roughs so there’s no finished pages at all.

Anyway, I chose to do the journey of a little girl and a gentlemanly deinonychus to the Bahamas. Shenanigans are sure to ensue.
